Goodnite

Had a messy day at work today but was glad to see when I got home that the kids had all their chores done. They were eager to put together the treat bags for tomorrow. Lots of little goodies and I bought some of those McDonald's coupons to tuck inside too!

I bought a couple of Delissio pizzas on the way home today and hopefully that will make quick work of supper tomorrow nite after work so we can get ready to go trick-or-treating.
I'll be sure to get some pics!!!

I'm off to read the kids a few Hallowe'en bedtime stories
and then the big boys and I are going to watch
Something's Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton.
I've got my flannel sheets in the dryer and I'm making up a lovely bed with some nice powdered sheets as this is the first nite I get the bed to myself with Mike being gone, lol!!
I love to just go to bed and read when I've got the bed all alone!

It's Friday

I'm off work today so going to get the house tidied up, some

laundry done and when the little kids get home from school, we're
off to the high school to pick Cody up from basketball practice.
He brought home an invitation from school yesterday inviting us
to a special awards ceremony next week. Neither one of us is sure
what he's getting an award for but I think we are going to go anyway.
Mike will be gone so I'll have to go by myself though

UPDATE-14:47
Well, I finally made it back here!! Man, I have had like no computer time at all today hardly. But I did get alot accomplished. A couple loads of  laundry, one of which I hung on the line because it was the jeans and they take a long time to dry in the dryer. I try to hang a load on the line still if it's a nice day as I hate to waste electricity, especially at the price we have to pay!

I also made up some rice pudding while I was cleaning up the kitchen. Mmmm...I love that stuff and thought I would treat hubby before he goes to the hunt camp tomorrow and spends the week eating greasy who knows what!lol

It's Almost Here!

 GOOD EVENING EVERYONE!!

Just popping in quick before I go to watch Survivor.

I worked late today as we had a dryer down yesterday, have
tomorrow off and then in again for the weekend which I picked up
because the housekeeper is sick. This is a great weekend to work
though because the girls are all pretty layed back and we have alot of fun and we're planning some big Hallowe'en doings for the residents on Sunday too.

This morning when I got up for work Hannah woke up
and was so excited to be going to school for their Hallowe'en
party and parade that she was all ready to get up with me, lol!
I told her she could go back to bed for 2 hours and daddy
would be sure to get her up in time. She came home with lots
of stories and candy too, lol!

Colton brought home a Jack-O-Lantern that they
carved at school and we will carve the rest of ours on Saturday
I think. I was just realizing that I will be a single parent for
the week starting Saturday as Mike will be going hunting then
until the following weekend. Cody will babysit while I'm gone
to work and it'll be a busy day Sunday for sure. Good thing
Cody is old enough that he can stay home and hand out candy
to the few that we do get. I bought some candy yesterday at
the store and decided we'll do up some bags again, with lots of
goodies in them. The kids had fun making them up last year.

The Halloween Costume

Well, I know....there's nothing like saving it for the last minute, lol, like I usually do...

but Hannah and I went shopping today and got her a costume and some
candy to take for their party tomorrow. Colton will be participating in the parade also.
He has decided he's going as some madman, with a horrible looking mask and
carrying a machete!

The note sent home asked for healthy snacks, but heck...the kids have to take healthy
snacks for lunch everyday, lol, and Hallowe'en is synonymous with candy...
isn't it????lol

Anyway, Hannah will be 'Flower Power Barbie'!!
Very cool looking retro outfit in bright pink, with some
bright pink John Lennon glasses.
Only thing is the top won't go on her!!!
So I will be spending my time watching Lost also mending
her top. I think I can cut it right down the middle of the
back where there is already a seam and put in two little
lace ties, as there is already a tie at the neck.
She will be wearing a white turtleneck underneath
anyway or she'll freeze her butt off, lol!!

They will be doing a parade around the school classrooms...
anyone else remember doing that when you
were in school?
HAPPY HALLOWE'EN EVERYONE!!

Lunar Eclipse

 Don't miss it!!

Here the moon will be totally covered by the shadow
of the earth at about 10:30 and the moon will
resemble a glowing pumpkin.

Check out your local news forecasts to find out the
time in your neck of the woods!!

The next one won't happen till March of 2007.

LATER...
would you believe that I have 4 children in the school system and not one of them came home and knew anything about the lunar eclipse tonite!!

You  would think that a natural phenomenon like this would be certain topic for discussion in a classroom no matter what the age of the child!!

LATER...
Well, I know I should be getting to bed right now...but I took a look and there's only a smidgen left of the moon up there before the whole thing is gone so here I sit waiting to see the ring

A Quick Hello

We just got home from the mall and I'm grabbing a few minutes here before I go to watch Cowboy U on CMT.

I came straight home from work and picked up the
kids and it ends up the only thing we got at the mall was
the $40 ball cap that we went for and I
bought myself two new books, one full of
Christmas Ideas, and the other a beautiful coffee
table book with excerpts from Canadian Author
W.O. Mitchell's (who died a few years back) books
and beautiful photographs of the places out west in the
prairies that he wrote about. It's gorgeous and was a steal at $10 regular $44, I just couldn't resist! Then of course we hit McDonald's for supper where I used some
free meal coupons that I won on the radio.

Had a great day overall, and even work wasn't so bad
....my immediate boss gave us support workers a cute
little Hallowe'en gift...it was sure nice to be thought of

I got My Flu Shot :(

Well, I went and did it. I got my flu shot at work the other day and let them know it was under duress. I didn't want to get it but I also couldn't afford to be layed off for 2 weeks like I was last year

Anyway, about a half hour, (if that) after I got it the side of my face felt funny and my chest felt tight and my throat felt constricted. Very wierd....and as it was happening I remembered that the very same thing had happened last year when I got it.

I told the nurse and she said it sounded almost like an allergic reaction but not extreme. I have never been allergic to anything in my whole life. After two hours though, everything was back to normal and the only tell tale sign was the sore spot on my arm.

What a Great Day!

We had the greatest time!!

Way too much fun, way too much food,
and way too much money spent!!!lol

One of my friends and I got much applause when we
finally made it back to the bus after the driver having to
come round us up when we were late , lol.
And then at the next stop the bus actually had to leave my
other friend there when our companion didn't show up!!
(He came back for them after he dropped the rest of us off)

We locked a lady out of the bathroom, when one of us spilled coffee and had to use the toilet paper (we were seated by the washroom where they had saved four seats for us, as we were last to get on) to clean it up and then accidentally locked the bathroom door. Then to top it off there was no toilet paper left!!
I dare say we were the entertainment on the bus, lol!
Just like a bunch of teenages, giggling and having fun!!

They had stables in St. Jacobs for the many horse and buggies that came down the street.
And wouldn't it figure that I missed each of them with the camera!!

I just got home at 11 so I'm off to bed now,
need to be up for work tomorrow morning.

Hittin' The Road Tomorrow

Well tomorrow is my long awaited trip to St. Jacob's

I can't believe it's come so fast!
Me and three friends from work will be going on a
bus trip to Mennonite country to a huge indoor/outdoor
farmer's market, then onto the village itself for lots
of stores full of handmade treasures,
then a big buffet on the way home for supper!

I can't wait!!

Won't be home till quite late, but I'll post when
I get back to let you know how our day went.

Hmmmmm....Turkey...Finally!

Well the turkey certainly did it's trick, lol!!

We didn't leave my sisters till almost 10 last nite and I
had to stop at Timmie's on the way home for a yummy Cafe Mocha
because I couldn't stay awake! The only problem was that I was so stuffed full, that I couldn't even enjoy it

We celebrated our Thanksgiving last nite with my family.
Mom had bought a huge bird and there was more than half left
so she sent some home with me and guess what we are having for supper tonite, lol. Haven't quite decided what dish it will be, but you know it's gonna have turkey in it

Got some pics, but haven't downloaded them from the camera yet.
I'm having a lazy morning here, lol. I actually got to sleep in till 8:30 when a tired and wet Cody and Mike popped in from their wet nite outside camping. They had fun at the campfire but I think they forgot that if you touch the sides of a tent when it's raining, it will leak!! So they got a little wet. Their trail ride this morning has been cancelled because of the bad weather. It sucks when you've spent so long planning something only to have the weather not co-operate!!

I spent the morning watching Third Watch and ER, episodes that I taped from last week. I'm on my fourth cup of coffee and still in my jammies and it's almost lunch time!!
I'm blaming it on our cold, wet, windy weather, lol, what a good
day for doing nothing!!

It's Friday

 It's Friday!

Does anyone have any plans for the weekend??

We are off to my sisters tomorrow to celebrate our Thanksgiving because I had to work last weekend.
My mom will be there and my other sister will be there with her little guy Andy, the one that Hannah adores, lol.

Mike and Cody have been planning a trail ride for this weekend for quite some time now. They have a BBQ/bonfire tomorrow nite and sleep under the stars and then hit the trails with the horses on Sunday with a group of other horse lovers. So I'm not too sure what they are going to do about tomorrow evening. My sister lives about an hour from here. Who knows though, with all this rain, they could get washed out anyway. Doesn't that figure, after all the gorgeous weather we have been having here, that just when you plan something outdoors, it goes and pours rain.

I hope you all have a great weekend whatever you may do!

Ban SMoking in Cars

I'm not too sure how many of our members smoke but even as a non-smoker, I am against this. Just wondering what you all thought about it.

Ontario Medical Association: Smoking Should Be Banned in Cars that Carry Children

By CASSANDRA SZKLARSKI, Canadian Press

TORONTO (CP) - A proposal to ban smoking in Ontario day-cares and in cars that transport children would be impossible to enforce, critics said Thursday as the province's doctors called for more drastic measures to shield youngsters from second-hand smoke.

The Ontario Medical Association said children's exposure to smoke must be curtailed, arguing in a report released Thursday that their delicate respiratory systems make them especially susceptible to pulmonary disease and cancer.

But the idea immediately raised the ire of some smokers who feared such a policy would tread on individual rights and be impossible to enforce.

"Where is the line?" Gord Smith, a 55-year-old father of three adult children, said as he took a cigarette break in downtown Toronto.

"Is this the start of a whole series of government interventions in our private lives? We as individuals have to take responsibility."

Aside from banning lit cigarettes from day-cares and the family car, the association wants smoking restricted in foster homes and considered as a factor in child custody decisions.

It also wants Ontario's drug benefit plan to cover nicotine replacement therapies and more information to be disseminated about the health effects of second-hand smoke.

"It is the No. 1 preventable cause of disease and damage to our population and it is something that (causes) disease and damage doctors see morning, afternoon and all night long, every day," said Dr. Ted Boadway, the association's executive director of health policy.

The province, however, has its own plan to combat smoking provincewide and a government source told The Canadian Press it will not include measures to force drivers to butt out in their own cars.

The province plans to reveal its anti-tobacco strategy in the next few weeks.

Several municipalities, including Toronto, Sudbury and Ottawa, already have strict smoking bylaws in place.

But Boadway said the government is dismissing a ban on smoking in cars because this is the first time it has been proposed and has never been considered by legislators.

"My experience is that today's 'no' is tomorrow's legislation," he said.

Boadway said he doesn't think such a law would be difficult to enforce and just having it on the books would influence people's behaviour.

"Once people understand the seriousness of the problem, people respond," said Boadway.

"People will be responsive to that, just as they were responsive to seat-belt protection."

The association's study found that cars were up to 23 times more smoky than smokers' homes and some homes were as bad as bars, Boadway said.

One 40-year-old mother of five children suggested the policy would be an insult to her parenting skills.

"That's a parent responsibility," said Sue Chiblow, whose children range in age from 10 to 22. "It's just like, what do you feed your kids? You have an obese kid, you have diabetes, it's the same thing. Are they going to start banning potato chips?"

Some Ontario childrens' aids societies already restrict smoking in foster homes in Kingston, Ont., and Toronto, the association noted.

New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories have all approved anti-smoking laws.

British Columbia and Prince Edward Island allow smoking in specially ventilated rooms in restaurants and bars, as does Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia's premier wants smoking rooms eliminated by 2008.

Good Morning!

Yes, the frost was certainly on the pumpkin here this morning!!brrrrr...I've got the woodstove going though so it's toasty warm in here and the sun is shining on the laundry I got hung on the line. Even the hose for watering the cows was froze up this morning!!

Colton is home with me today, as he had a trip today to see a play and he didn't really want to go. Haven't seen much of him yet though, he's upstairs playing GameCube, lol. So it's pretty quiet here.

I started decorating for Hallowe-en yesterday when I got home from work so I'm hoping that I'll get a little more of that finished up today and a lot of housework, because as usual after a weekend with me working and everyone else home, the house is a right off!

RIP Superman

I heard today that Christopher Reeve passed away. He had an infected bedsore that caused a cardiac arrest, from which he went into a coma

Just how tragic is that?? To become paralyzed by something he loved so much to do. A big strong man in the prime of his life.

In the end the man who played Superman really was a Superman. I can't imagine how proud his family was of him and still are.

He has done so much to bring awareness to spinal cord research and given hope to so many people who share his condition. And even to the rest of us who struggle with the simple struggles that life throws us, it's like if he can remain so positive and courageous and full of faith in his situation then I can definitely overcome my own struggle.

As far as the sore that finally become his downfall,I have seen this happen many times working in health care as I do. These poor people that have become confined to bed or wheelchairs, it doesn't take much for a pressure wound to appear and it takes a lot of diligence on the part of the staff and nurses to watch for them and if not prevent them then to make sure that special attention is paid and they don't develop into something worse.

What a sad day for all of us

An Uncomfortable Situation

And perhaps even a little scary!

Today I stopped at Walmart on the way home from work and who should I meet there but an ex bil. Well, I did see him coming and tried to avoid him, but he saw me and stopped me and asked me point blank if I was trying to avoid him. He made it sound like a joke though, I told him I hadn't seen him (yep, I lied!)

Anyway, the break-up between him and my sister was bad and though it was years ago now, he is still very bitter. We weren't two minutes into the conversation and he was calling her every name in the book and spewing filth. Anyway I told him, that I wasn't going there and that what happened was between the two of them and no one else. He's very scary in the way he blames her for everything....and I mean everything bad that is happening to him right now. He's been off work for a year, he's mortgaged to the hilt on a house they built and should have been paid for ages ago, he got beat up quite bad by someone with an ax (yes, an ax!!) and all of this, all of it...is my sisters fault because she left him. When I say he was spewing...I mean he really, really was. It was almost a volcanic force that he shot these words out.

What really scared me the most, was when he said that if he ends up losing that house that he built with his own hands, that heads were gonna roll. And you know what, I believe he meant it!

Just wondering though, if any of you have come across an uncomfortable situation like that. I tried to excuse myself but he just kept on spewing. I didn't feel threatened myself at all, but that it was just very uncomfortable listening to him talk about my family like that.

Windy Weather...so what's new, lol

 Good Morning Everyone!

It's another gorgeous fall day here today even though it's a little bit windy out there, but what's new for our area right?lol
Hannah is home with me and singing and dancing in the living room right now..too cute!

Not alot planned for today. Did some grocery shopping yesterday and finally picked up my pumpkins and gourds so today I'm off to nab some cornstalks from the farmer next door and do some outside decorating. Got the wash almost done and ready to hang on the line. And this afternoon I think I'm going to do up a batch of cabbage rolls for supper. MMMm...haven't had them in quite some time!

At least I don't have to go anywhere today, no soccer games scheduled, lol! With the price of gas these days, it's costing a fortune to truck the kids around!!
Though it's back to work again tomorrow until the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
Yep, that's right, I have to work for the whole holiday

Hope everyone else has a great day!!

Good Nite

We had quite a day here with one little boy

calling home from school to say he had a black eye
(so of course he wanted mommy to come
and pick him up, lol)
and another coming home from his soccer game
tonite with a fat lip!
After Cody got home from the soccer game he
promptly fell asleep on the couch and stayed there
till he woke and watched the end of a horror movie
"Wrong Turn" with me at about 11 pm.

Trapped....

 ..in our town!!!!

Today they are having a qualifying race for the Boston marathon in our town. Well we live on an island and there are only 5 routes off which are all on the north side (we live on the south) except for the one that is the ferry. Taking the ferry would take us more than an hour and a half out of our way.

We are trying to visit my mil today as she needs help moving a freezer and we have yet to visit them in their new home. Well after spending all morning on the phone trying to reach someone who could tell me how to get out of here (which I didn't succeed in doing) we finally had to give up and wait until we could get to one of the nearest roads that will let us out and it re-opens at 1. This will still take us at least a half hour out of our way!

Can you tell I'm a little upset!! There are thousands of people that live south of the town where the main road is closed. I have already left messages with the mayor, and anyone else I could think of because this is to be yearly event!!

Anyway I best get going because I think the kids have finished their lunch and are ready to boogie!

Flu Shots

Our kids will be bringing home papers from school that we will sign if we want them to receive the shot at school from a nurse. The thing is though they aren't giving them out till the end of November, and I'm wondering why they wait so long?? The shot is supposed to last for up to 6 months so why not give it a little earlier...I mean the flu starts around here with the cold weather coming and we can have snow by the end of October.

It's free to everyone in Ontario where I live, but for anyone working in the healthcare profession, it is highly recommended that we get it. We have the option to refuse, which is what I did last year because I have never had one before in my life and we aren't even ones to take aspirin around here, but some option that is...if there is an outbreak at work (which means only one case) then we are not allowed to return to work till we get the shot or the flu is totally gone from the facility.

That's what happened to me, just before Christmas last year, I was called up and told not to return to work unless I got my shot, then I could come back 24 hours later. So under duress, after calling my government representatives, to see if this was legal (it was!) I got my flu shot along with Hannah who was then 3.

I have to say that although neither one of us got sick, though we had already been through a bout of the flu earlier , I still have mixed emotions about this. We are all very blessed to be healthy in our family, and I just don't feel that we need to be injected with something that our bodies can fight off anyway. I feel like it should be my choice and I should not be penalized with loss of my job if I choose not to get it. I know the residents in the nursing home are frail and elderly but I do not have direct contact with them as I work in the laundry. If I did have direct contact and thought that I may infect one of them should I happen to get the flu, then I wouldn't have any hesitation to get it to keep them safe.

I still don't know what I will do once the papers come home
