The Weekend and A Sick Uncle?

I had a wonderful weekend even though I did have to work today.

On Saturday, my sisters girlfriend had a baby shower for her in Toronto. That's about a 3 hour drive for me. Seeing how I was supposed to be working, I played hooky and picked my mom up half way there and headed for the big city.

She got tons of wonderful stuff, I managed to win some wonderful Healing Garden candles, and we got to go visit at my sisters house with her and hubby when the shower was over. It's the first time I've been up to her place since she got married over a year ago We ordered chinese in and didn't leave till 10:30 Sat. nite. It was an hour back to mom's and I stayed the nite there and then headed for work an hour away from her place this morning, stopped to visit my girlfriend and her little girl on the way home this afternoon and finally made it back home about 5 tonite. Very tired girl I am!!

Got some bad news from my mom when I learned that her brother has just been diagnosed with luekemia. He is only 64 and they will start him on chemo as soon as they can but for right now they are saying that it is hard to say whether tomorrow or any moment could be his last day. No hope for bone marrow transplants or anything like that because of his age.

My uncle is the sweetest guy, always has a smile on his face, a kind word to say, joking around with us kids since I can remember. He just got finished building a new home and was enjoying his retirement and all his grandkids and now life has played this cruel trick on him. I am hoping and praying that the chemo can do something for him.

My big Fat....

..obnoxious fiance! Did anyone watch this show??

The finale was on last nite and after all of the torture this poor girl and her family went through it was finally nice to see them get their million dollars!! I bawled partly out of happiness and partly out of sadness to see how hurt her family was that she was really going through with this wedding. Even after they found out it was a put on for money they were still upset.

I think they all worked it out in the end though and they said it made their family even stronger than it was before. They really did have a close family too, it was great to see a family that obviously loved each other alot.

Good Morning Sunshine

The sun is definitely taking this guys advice here, lol!!
It's a beautiful day, supposed to go up to -4 celsius, which isn't too
bad at all, with all that glorious sunshine to go with it.

I don't have a lot planned today, just gonna stick around the house.
Will need to go out and pick up my son from the library after school as he
has been volunteering there to help him get in the 40 hours of
community work they need to graduate from high school. He loves to
read so he couldn't have found a better place to put his hours in
that for sure!

Just wondering if the highschoolers in other countries need to
put in so many volunteer hours to graduate??

Closing Lipsons

I worked today and after I picked up Hannah from the sitters we stopped to pick up dog food at the feed store, stopped to pick up rat food at the pet store, then off to the grocery store to pick up the dream whip that I forgot I needed to make Mike's cherry cheesecake, and then stopped at Pharma Plus so I could pick up some cute little Barbie and Dora hearts for Hannah for Valentines. I just hid them behind my back while we shopped

Then we had to make a trip to the post office so I could get some one cent stamps to add onto my old ones, seeing how they went up in price again. We needed them to mail Hannah's valentines to her gramma and grandpa's and to some of her cousins. She carried them around in her little backpack all day waiting to go to the post office...too cute!!

Then once home I still had to make the cherry cheesecake for supper and finish up some dishes and catch a bit of time on the puter before Mike gets home.

I'm starving, lol, and I can't wait for that cherry cheesecake

I worked again today and shopped again today!!! I am best left to the confines of the house because when I leave here in the van, it seems all I do is stop at the store and spend money!!!lol

I had to stop and get Colton a new winter jacket, thank goodness I was able to find a great one at the second hand store. The one he has now I bought for him brand new at the end of winter last year when they were all on sale, whole suit for just $25. Well the freakin' zipper is broken already!!! The zipper keeps splitting apart and when I fix the little zipper part of it, it just ends up splitting again the next day!! This coat still looks like brand new and I'm not too adept at sewing in a new zipper. I am finding these new plastic zippers they have aren't near as good as the old steel ones.

Then I stopped at the Lipson's in town. They have been open here in Picton for 80 years and have finally had to close their doors. Just too many big box stores around. They have everything on sale for 50% off! Got some excellent bargains!

Chaos in The Grocery Store

OMG, I couldn't believe the chaos in No Frills earlier this morning!!!

We have 3 grocery stores in town and No Frills has their $Dollar sale on starting today!!

It was crazy in there!!! I was supposed to pick the kids up from church after I was done shopping but I could tell by the lines backed up about 10 carts each that I wasn't gonna make it, lol!!

Thank goodness I had my phone and the church was just down the road away so the kids walked to meet me. Granted there were some great sales there but we live in a tiny town and the parking lot which is very huge for a town our size was filled to capacity!! I think everyone in town was there!lol

Grammy Awards

Grammy's are on CBS tonite at 8!

I will probably tape it tonite. For one thing, I won't be able to stay up that late as I work tomorrow, and another, it will let me fast forward through all those artists that I really don't care to see, lol!

I am keeping my eye on at least one award though. A local gir~Avril Lavigne~ is up for song of the year( a songwriters award) for I'm With You. She is also up for best Female Pop Vocal Perfomance and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.

GO AVRIL!!

Well, I finally got to watch and just what is up with the guys wanting to grab their crotch all the time????

We watched the Black-Eyed Peas perform and we were all rolling on the floor laughing, LOL!! My boys tried to tell me they weren't grabbing themselves but at one point even they couldn't deny it, and the man in the funny pants was running in thin air at one point... Just too hilarious!!

Sting performed a couple of times........ahhhhhhhhh....wouldn't kick him out for eating crackers in my bed and you know what even my kids had heard of the song 'Roxanne'

This Makes Me so Very, Very Sad :)

Have you all been following this story?? To see it come to and end like this makes me ohhh sooo very sad, I can't even tell you. When I read it I got goosebumps.

My heart goes out to Carlie's family and friends who's hearts must be breaking in two. My thoughts and prayers are with them in their time of tragedy.

I hope they hang this guy from the B@!!s (Sorry folks, as far as I am concerned if they caught the right guy, then he isn't fit to even breathe the same air as her distraught family)

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - The body of an 11-year-old girl whose abduction was captured by a surveillance camera was found Friday in a church parking lot, and a mechanic has been charged with her murder.

Sarasota County sheriff's officials said Carlie Brucia's body was found about 1 a.m. outside a church a few miles from the car wash where she was abducted. Authorities did not say how she died or whether she had been raped.

Sheriff Bill Balkwill said Joseph P. Smith, 37, has been charged with the girl's murder. Smith, who could face the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder, is believed to be the tattooed man in a mechanic's shirt who was seen in the surveillance video leading Carlie away by the arm Sunday evening, authorities said.

Investigators found the body after negotiations with Smith, said a law enforcement source who spoke on condition of anonymity. Earlier, authorities had said Smith was not cooperating.

``We now stand ready to complete our obligation, and assure you that he will pay the ultimate price for what he did to her,'' Capt. Jeff Bell said.
Late in the morning, crime scene technicians dressed in white coveralls pulled the body from under some think underbrush near the church parking lot. The covered body was placed on a stretcher and taken away by a white van.

The girl's father, Joe Brucia, somberly thanked ``all the (law enforcement) people behind me and all the people that were behind them in their efforts to find my daughter.'' He also thanked ``the community that was so involved.''
The Central Church of Christ was surrounded by yellow crime scene tape Friday, and about a dozen detectives walked in a line across the field in an evidence sweep. The declined to comment.

Carlie's stepfather, Steven Kansler, and some friends gathered at the edge of the church property Friday morning, kneeling in a prayer circle.
Rod Myers, the church's minister, said a Bible study group met there Wednesday night but nobody saw the body because it was dark.
``We are all upset about it, and we all feel helpless when things like this happen,'' Myers said.

In the front yard of Carlie's home, decorated with banners and posters reading, ``We love you, Carlie,'' another small group of supporters joined hands and bowed their heads in prayer. The girl's family includes Carlie's 6-year-old half brother and a 10-year-old stepbrother.

Friends described Carlie as a beautiful girl who loved watching actress Jennifer Lopez, going to the mall and greeting friends with warm hugs. She was heading home from a slumber party when she was abducted.
Bob Hagemann, principal of MacIntosh Middle School, called Carlie ``a shining light'' at his school.

Carlie's friend Natalie Thomas cried after hearing that her classmate's body was found. She remembered Carlie's smile and that she liked to go on walks.
``There's nothing you can do to make anybody feel better and it's going to hurt for a long, long time,'' said Chuck Chambers, a private investigator who was working with the family.

``I need my daughter home,'' Carlie's mother, Susan Schorpen, had said Thursday. ``She's a very, very important part of this family and community.''
Members of her former Girl Scout troop took a day off from school Wednesday to pass out fliers at shopping centers, canvass neighborhoods and distribute pink ribbons adorned with Carlie's name.

A reward fund of $50,000 was offered for information.

Smith has been arrested at least 13 times in Florida since 1993, according to state records, and convicted of drug possession and other charges. He was arrested in 1997 in Manatee County on a false imprisonment charge but was acquitted a year later.

An aide to Smith's public defender, Adam Tebrugge, had declined to comment Thursday.
Carlie was walking home from a friend's house at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday when she took a short cut behind Evie's Car Wash, which was closed for the day.

Bloodhounds led deputies to the business, and car wash owner Mike Evanoff checked the security system video Monday, he said. The images of Carlie popped up almost immediately, he said.
``It was cold chills right up my back,'' Evanoff said earlier this week. ``My manager couldn't even look at it. It's an awful feeling.''

In the 1997 false imprisonment case, a 20-year-old woman in Bradenton said a man grabbed her as she walked by and tried to pull her away, according to records released by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
``He got on top of me and told me to shut up or he would cut me,'' she told authorities. After a struggle, she said, she managed to run into the street, and passengers in an approaching van stopped and rescued her.
Smith, found hiding behind a house by a police tracking dog, was acquitted by jurors after telling them he was trying to keep the woman from running into the street and she misunderstood.

School Trips

As I mentioned in another post, Colin my 13 y/o is home from school this week because his class went on a trip. There are 7 other kids that didn't go on the trip either, and quite a few of them are staying home too. I didn't think it was really fair that he have to go to school when most of the class is in Quebec skiing and snowshoeing.

He did go to school yesterday because they had tallked about taking the kids left behind snowshoeing at the local outdoor education area. But no go there, they aren't planning anything with them at all.

I think that this is soooooooo unfair!!! Just because these kids could not afford the $250 (yep, that much!!) to go to Quebec, I don't feel that they should have to miss out, especially if it is a school sanctioned function. To top it off they asked for the money in November and wanted it all in by December 20 and that was just way too much to come up with before Christmas.

Maybe I am so upset about it because I feel oh so terrible and horrible that I could not afford to pay for my son to go. I feel like such a bad parent

Still it would have only cost $10 or so per person for them to go snowshoeing and skiing here at the outdoor center and I do think it is singling out the poor kids and excluding them because of their parents income...that is just not right!!! The least they could have done was arrange to have these kids go there for one day.

Alright I'm done with my rant!!!LOL!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

Well, it ended up snowing all day here and Hannah and Colin
kept busy playing in the snow. This is Colin's creative idea
of a snowman!

Then they tried thier hand at making snow angels but the
snow was so heavy and packy that they didn't turn out very
well once they stood up.

Winter Wonderland

It's Frosty Winter Wonderland here!!
It's snowing to beat the band outside and we just got home
from town. The roads were crappy to begin with because
of the freezing rain we got overnite and I am
so surprised that the buses even ran this morning.

Colin is home today because his class went on a trip and he
didn't go. We made a trip to the dollar store so Hannah could
get her daddy a birthday present, but I think she really wanted
to get something for herself, lol!! We needed some milk too
though so it was a good excuse to go.

I am off work now till next Monday!! I took a couple lieu days
and managed to get a week off in a row. Not a whole lot
planned though, just hoping to get Colin's room cleaned out

seeing as how he is home too! He'll be wishing he was in school, lol!
